Free Colour Television Scheme For The People Of Tamil Nadu
The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on the Floor of the Legislative Assembly on the motion of thanks to the Governor on 30.05.2006, has announced that "for providing entertainment to women and to enable them to acquire General Knowledge, the scheme for Free distribution of Colour Television sets will be commenced on 15.09.2006 on the occasion of the Birthdays of Anna and Periyar".
The Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that all the households in Tamil Nadu State who do not have Colour TV sets would be provided with a free 14" Colour Television sets from State funds. ELCOT was nominated as the procurement agency.
In this connection, Government constituted a Technical Committee comprising members from Anna University, Indian Institute of Technology and a representative from M/s. CEAMA (Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association). The Technical Committee finalized the Technical specification of CTV based on ISO Standards with 2 years Warranty period. The Technical Specification was approved by the All Party Legislative Members Committee headed by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The CTV suppliers are selected on the basis of International tenders.
